Botox Has Increased Popularity Among Men

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

BROTOX- as defined by Urban Dictionary, “botox when used on a male, usually something he doesn’t want you to know about.”

Brotox may be a corny term, but corniness aside, treatments such as Botox, Dysport, and the newest competitor, Xeomin, are gaining popularity among men.  Vanity isn’t just for the ladies anymore!  Men are looking for ways to preserve their youthful apperance as well.

According to a report featured on Good Morning America (By SUZANNE YEO), gifting Botox for men was all the rage for the holidays.  According to the report, “Last year, more than 300,000 men  got Botox… That is a 10% increase from the previous year.”  It would seem that men aren’t trying to go for a fully frozen look, but rather something more subtle.  A Miami area plastic surgeon interviewed in the piece says the trend among men is to “soften up this look to just give a more approachable appearance.”

So the next time you notice that distinguished gentleman next to you, you’ll never know if he’s just aging gracefully, or if he had a little help from the tox!!

Plump Up Your Pout With Dermal Filler

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

Lacking in the lip department?  Dermal fillers, such as Restylane, can help give you the pouty look you want for up to 6 months for the average patient.  Nervous about injections into the lips?  The FDA recently expanded the use of Restylane and it now is officially indicated for lip augmentation (in patients over 21).  What exactly is Restylane?  Restylane is hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occuring compound in the body.  It is not from an animal source like it’s predecessor collagen, so it is very well tolerated and you see the results instantly!

Dysport Gaining Popularity

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

dysport_logoDysport, approved by the FDA in 2009, has been widely used in other countries for years.  And in the U.S., it is quickly catching up to it’s competitor in popularity.  In fact, a report published in the Los Angeles Times (Botox face-off: Choice of toxin may matter (at least for crow’s feet), June 21, 2011) says people prefer Dysport over Botox for the treatment of crows feet wrinkles.

According to the report, researchers conducted a “randomized, double-blind” study in which subjects were treated with Dysport on one side of the face and Botox on the other.  Researchers found that after 30 days “two-thirds of the patients said they preferred the Dysport side of their face.”

Self Esteem Boosters: Botox and Dysport?

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

SDC15212When you look better, you feel better… at least that’s according to a recent study published in Dermatologic Surgery, November 2010.

To come to that conclusion, researchers studied 100 patients who were injected with either botulinum toxin A or placebo saline.  They were then asked to take surveys to rate their quality of life and self esteem two weeks after treatment, then again 3 months after treatment.  For the patients that were treated with botulinum toxin A, researchers noted improvements to how they rated their quality of life after receiving treatment.
