Summer is quickly sneaking up on us… That means (GASP!) bathing suit season. Now that you’re tan (out of a can, of course) has faded, you may be noticing unsightly blue, green, and purple veins creating a lovely road map on your lower extremities. Well fear not!! All hope is not lost. Leg veins have been treated by injecting a detergent solution (aka: Sclerotherapy) for years. Patients used to be treated with saline injections, but over the last few years new, more effective solutions have been developed. We treat our patients with Asclera (Polidocanol), a safe and highly effective detergent solution that causes the superficial unsightly vein to breakdown. You may ask, “is it safe to collapse those superficial leg veins?” In a word, yes. The veins you see represent a vascular insufficiency. By collapsing the veins that are keeping you out of a swimsuit, the blood is then re-routed through deeper veins, and you get legs you’ll want to show off this summer. But wait… You worry, “I’ve heard I’ll have to be confined by hot, uncomfortable compression hose!” Wrong! Patients aren’t required to wear those awful compression hose any longer and results are just as good.
So no more excuses- say au revoir to veins and bonjour to bathing suits!
